Forest ecosystem services
Description
Forest ecosystems provide essential ecosystem services that are used by humans: They protect against natural hazards, serve as a recreation area, supply the raw material wood, have a cleansing effect on air and water and act as carbon storage, thereby also contributing to climate protection. Their availability depends on the state of forest ecosystems and the careful and sustainable use of these resources. In the new report, the Federal Environment Agency has recorded 17 ecosystem services of the forest and assigned them to the areas of economy, health, safety and natural diversity. The aim is to improve knowledge about ecosystems and ecosystem services and to raise their importance in the public interest. The aim is to raise awareness of the need for sustainable use of forest resources.
