INTEMARES - Cap Breton Canyon - Presence of Kophobelemnon stelliferum 1023 IEO

Description

The information contained in this data set is the distribution of the points of presence of the species Kophobelemnon stelliferum (soft coral) obtained through the analysis of non-invasive sampling images used in the habitat characterization study, carried out within the scope of the INTEMARES project (LIFE15 IPE ES 012) by the team working on the COST-SANTANDER (CSIC). This is the representation of the spatial distribution of the points of presence of the species Kophobelemnon stelliferum (soft coral) observed in the Cap Breton Submarine Cannon System, which is proposed as a new SCI. The area comprising the data provided covers the study area whose longitudinal limits are approximately 3o 0’W and 2o 3’W in longitude and the latitudinal limits are 43o 30’N and 43o 50’N, its seabed, the waters of the canyon system comprising the Cap Bretón canyon and its tributary canyons, the intertributary platforms characterised by pockmarks, the continental shelf and the upper slope. This set of information was acquired during 2019 and 2020, thanks to the oceanographic campaigns INTEMARES-A22C-0619, INTEMARES-A22C-0620, both on board the B/O Ramón Margalef. It is a data set composed of point-type vector elements, where each element represents the observation point of an individual of this species. The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database. These works have been financed thanks to the LIFE IP INTEMARES Project (LIFE-IP INTEMARES - Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management for N2000 network in the Marine Environment - LIFE15 IPE/ES/000012). This integrated project has the challenge of laying the foundations to effectively manage the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network and complete the work and progress promoted within the framework of the LIFE + INDEMARES project, which managed to take a great step in terms of declaring new areas.
