Description
The product Groundwater reservoirs mainly contains information about groundwater in larger reservoirs along gravel ridges and in sedimentary bedrock. The mapping of the groundwater reservoirs determines, among other things, the flow directions of the groundwater, the locations of the groundwater dividers and the size and abstraction possibilities of the groundwater reservoir.When mapping on a detailed scale, the catchment areas of the reservoir, surface water contacts, etc. are also determined.
SGU's information on groundwater forms an important basis for planning the water supply in society. It is also one of the prerequisites for us in Sweden to be able to achieve the environmental quality objective Groundwater of good quality and contributes to us being able to meet the requirements of the EC Water Framework Directive. In addition, groundwater information is used in matters relating to land use and spatial planning in general, e.g. as a basis for environmental impact assessments, for action programmes for the protection of groundwater and in the construction of landfills, roads, industries, etc.
