Aerial image mapping of human pressures in 2020

Description

Aerial image mapping of human pressures in sea areas along the coast of Finland. The dataset includes the following types of human pressure: 1. Potential dredging or mowing, small 2. Potential dredging or mowing, medium (minimum approx. 20 m size class) 3. Potential dredging or mowing, large (small harbour size or larger dredging area) 4. Pier, small (less than 10 m, i.e. mainly private small “pebbles” both boat piers and swimming piers) 5. Pier, large (more than 10 m, i.e. mainly larger piers for several boats, such as quays for small marinas) 6. Breakwater, small (less than 20 m, i.e. mainly private small “pebbles”) 7. Breakwater, large (over 20 m) 8. Small marina 9. Commercial/Port of Large Vessels 10. Bridge (a bridge over which the water can flow/change below) 11. Bridge, no flow through (e.g. from terraces with limited water flow) 12. Area exposed to discharge of fresh water (e.g. ditch estuary, etc.; visually mapped and contains overlaps with classes 18 and 19.) 13. Breakwater on/connected with pier 14. Beach building (a building closed at the waterline, e.g. a boathouse, a fishing hut, a lakeside sauna, etc.) 15. Other human construction or activity (all other yo. and non-category) 16. Fish farm (bag/feed machine, etc.) 17. Built or terraced beach 18. Freshwater discharge point, large (SYKE network data: Coastline 1:10 000 and network of channels) 19. Freshwater discharge point, small (SYKE riverline data: Coastline 1:10 000 and network of channels) 20. Abandoned vessel/ship (i.e. wreck) Method: Human pressures have been mapped from the National Land Survey of Finland’s ortho-air images by several surveyors and based on visual examination of aerial photographs. The aerial photographs are mainly from 2018-2019.
