Description

The suitable habitat layer consists of Marbled Murrelet (MAMU) nesting habitat. It is a dynamic data product that uses several sources, outlined in Mather et al. (2010), to predict the distribution of suitable nesting habitat across the coast of B.C. The layer is updated periodically to reflect changes in suitable habitat on the landscape, incorporating new aerial survey and remote sensing data. The spatial boundaries of habitat are then updated where applicable (e.g., loss of habitat due to logging activity or forest burns of moderate to high severity rating, and changes in amount or distribution of habitat based on recent aerial surveys).
