Portraits of Tsar Peter III (1728-1762)
Description
Duke Carl Peter Ulrich von Holstein-Gottorf was born on 21.02.1728 in Kiel Castle. At the age of only 17 he was appointed heir to the throne at the behest of the Russian empress Elisabeth I., his aunt. After the death of the Czarine in 1762, he became Czar Peter III. Ruler of the Russian Empire. However, his reign ended after six months, since his wife, the later Empress Catherine II, had murdered in order to climb the Thorn herself.
