Map layer natural forest cells NRW

Description

In 1971, the first natural forest cells in North Rhine-Westphalia were designated: They are to become "primordial forests" of tomorrow. About 80 percent of the endangered animal and plant species in the forest depend on dead and waste wood. In the self-sufficient natural forest cell where all dying and dead wood remains in the forest, their population density is booming. In natural forest cells, all actions that may lead to the destruction, damage or alteration of the protected area or its components or to a lasting disturbance are prohibited.
