The Ice Age in North-East Westphalia and adjacent areas of Lower Saxony – Elster and Saale Age deposits and their crystalline guiding slide societies
Description
The present documentation was based on investigations of ice age events in the Westfälische Bucht with the detection of three Saalezeit ice advances with almost the same conditions as in the Netherlands. The results led the authors to extend their investigations further to the northeast via the Weserbergland to the North German lowlands in order to establish a parallelization with the moraine deposits in the Lower Saxony region. As a result, clear similarities can be seen in the study area and the adjacent areas, which go beyond the general fact of a main Saale-age advance to North and Northwest Germany and allow a parallelization of individual ice advances from Lower Saxony via Westphalia to the Rhineland.
