Description
The quality of the bathing water determines the risk to health. In 2012, bathing water quality was reported for the first time according to the criteria of the new Bathing Water Directive (2006/7/EC). This Directive provides for the classification of bathing waters into four quality classes based on the bacteriological results of the past four bathing seasons, namely ‘excellent’, ‘good’, ‘acceptable’ or ‘poor’. These reflect the average bathing water quality over the past four bathing seasons.
This indicator refers only to the sampled inland waters and not to the coastal beach waters.
