Structural business statistics
Description
Aim and summary description Since 1996, Statbel has organised an annual survey on the structure of enterprises, during which data on activity, employment, income, expenditure and investment for the previous accounting year are collected, although this does not necessarily coincide with a calendar year. The data thus collected should make it possible to compile complete, reliable and comparable statistics on the structure of enterprises at European level. Age is measured in years completed on 1 January. In addition, these statistical data enable each undertaking to situate itself in relation to its entire branch of activity. For the bodies associated with Statbel within the Institute of National Accounts, i.e. the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) and the Federal Planning Bureau (FPB), these data form the basis of national and regional accounts and input-output tables drawn up in accordance with the European System of Integrated Economic Accounts. These statistics are essential tools for economic policy-making, both at European level and at national and regional level.
