3D geological model of the lower subsoil of Lower Saxony
Description
The 3D geological model of the lower subsoil of Lower Saxony was created on the basis of the Geotectonic Atlas of Northwest Germany and the German North Sea (GTA). From the two-dimensional structural plans of 14 stratigraphic units of the GTA, base areas and, where possible, body-enveloping surfaces from the base Zechstein to the tertiary were modelled. The aim was to produce a three-dimensional image of the GTA as faithfully as possible. Due to the representation as a 3D model, contradictions such as layer overlaps can also be easily recognized.
The quaternary base and a digital terrain model complement the database.
The 3D model corresponds to the state of knowledge of the Geotectonic Atlas of 1996. Recent drilling and seismic data have not been integrated.
