Biocenotically significant river type
Description
In principle, the rivers are allocated on the basis of a bio-enenotically relevant flow water type (see https://www.wasserblick.net/servlet/is/18727/) on the basis of a process coordinated nationwide in the Federal-State Water Association (LAWA).
According to this method, in 2004 the first river type map of Baden-Württemberg was created on the geometric basis of the AWGN (as of 2010) in the form of an ESRI shape file. In 2012, a first fundamental revision and adaptation to the current AWGN (as of 2012) took place. A further revision took place in 2019/20, with most of the changes affecting the Upper Rhine lowlands. For this typologically problematic region, in accordance with the LAWA principles, a country-specific concept for typing was developed. In addition, the national dataset adjusted to the AWGN (as of 2019). For flow water typology in BW, two data sets (shapes) are provided: on the Internet (environmental data-online) the shape of “bioceenotically significant river type” with the results published in 2020, only for the internal use of the authorities (BRS) also the shape of “biocenoticically significant river type 2012”.
The background to the revisions will be explained in a report. The 2020 update report has been published in the LUBW publications (https://pudi.lubw.de/) since June 2021. The reports can be found using the search term “Typology”.
The biocenotically significant water type is directly included in the assessment of the biological quality component macrozoobenthos under the EU Water Framework Directive and is therefore primarily identified for the waters relevant to the Water Framework Directive (water basin greater than 10 km²). For the plant (partial) components phytoplankton, phytobenthos without diatoms and diatoms, the biocenotic water type serves as a basis for deriving the assessment types. Furthermore, the biocenotically significant flow water type also feeds into the evaluation of the physico-chemical quality components.
