Distribution of endangered species
Description
On the basis of TK10 rasters, the data inform to a graduated extent about the spread of valuable species of nature conservation. Grid units belonging to the most species-rich classes represent the distribution of endangered animal species. They serve as indicators for the distribution of hot spots of animal biodiversity in Saxony. However, the spatial distribution of hazards and specific protection requirements of individual species cannot be concluded from the present maps. For the presentation, groups of organisms were selected for which data are available on a TK10 basis from 1990 onwards. Of the animals, these are vertebrates (fish, lurches, creeping animals, breeding birds, mammals), dragonflies and locusts. The data was collected in country-wide mapping projects. The analysis was limited to the endangered species (Red Lists Saxony, Categories 1, 2, 3, R, G), because they have a more homogeneous data base and are usually species with specific ecological claims. Ubiquitous species with less specialised requirements and frequent species with numerous differences in coverage, which would have led to a weakening of the statement, were therefore not considered. From the central species database of the LfULG, the number of identified endangered species per TK10 grid was determined for the groups of organisms considered. According to group-wise preliminary considerations, the values for the respective animal groups were aggregated. The class formation was uniformly based on quantities of the considered TK10 grids. The total of 645 grids were sorted by the number of species determined in descending order. Class A comprises the top 5 percent of the grids with the highest number of species, classes B and C respectively the following 10 percent and 35 percent of the grids respectively. Thus, 50 percent of the grids in Saxony are occupied by classes A to C.
