Census of Third Places in France - 2023

Description

In 2023, a census of third-places was organized alongside regional networks of third-places, national networks (the RFFLabs Réseau Français des FabLabs, Espaces et Communities du Faire, the network of intermediate and independent places or third-places Édu), Commune Mesure, all the ministries that support third-places and the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion. In this census and questionnaire survey, we rely on an inclusive design of third places, respectful of their diversity: fablabs, shared gardens, intermediate places, third-spaces, associative cafes, shared workspaces, etc. This census was therefore addressed to all those who make third-places: pooling spaces and skills, hybridizing activities, bringing together engaged citizen collectives, promoting cooperation to meet the challenges of their territory, etc. You can find the outline of the questionnaire here: https://nuage.francetierslieux.fr/s/5gd8PMbQRErAFGy [207 questions, 10 thematic categories of the questionnaire: Identity card, General information, Land, Your activities, Public, Human resources, Governance, Partnerships, Economic model and Future prospects). This so-called ‘Census’ survey was launched on 13 March and closed on 10 May 2023. Subsequently, we worked with Data et Territoires de l’ANCT, the Institut Paris Région and Open Atlas to clean up the data, analyse it and publish it. Following this census campaign, France Tiers-Lieux officially launched the Third Place Observatory, a space for the production and dissemination of knowledge, for third places and all their partners.
