Preliminary flood risk assessment for the Loire-Bretagne basin (EPRI)

Description

The preliminary flood risk assessment is an inventory of the sensitivity of territories to flood risk based on readily available information. During the first cycle of the Floods Directive, it was adopted by the Prefect-Coordinator of the Basin in December 2011, in the form of four books. In the second cycle, in 2018, the evaluation was supplemented by an addendum. For the 3rd cycle, in 2024, the first book, which sets out the situation of the entire Loire-Bretagne basin, was updated and incorporated the 2018 addendum. The other books are unchanged. The preliminary flood risk assessment presents the geography of the basin, the types of floods to which it is exposed, and assesses the negative consequences that floods could have on the territory by analysing past events and estimating the potential impacts of future floods. It testifies to the sensitivity of the Loire-Bretagne basin to flooding and also highlights concentrations of issues in certain territories where events similar to those that occurred in the past would have significant consequences today. The implementation of the Floods Directive should make it possible to reduce these infringements.
