Best practices for the implementation of frugal AI

Description

**Background:** \ Noting the lack of a global evaluation methodology for AI systems, the Ecolab of the General Commissariat for Sustainable Development (Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion) launched in January 2024 a working group on the environmental impact of AI, in partnership with AFNOR and within the framework of the National Strategy for AI. The general framework for frugal AI is the result of 6 months of work with 150 contributors, from companies, research, associations and administrations. This framework is a first at the international level to offer all players in digital services a voluntary framework, accessible and understandable by all. \ \ Available on the AFNOR shop (), this repository is structured in three parts:\ \- A guide to precise definitions of concepts related to AI and frugality;\ \- A methodology for evaluation through environmental indicators;\ \- Good operational practices enabling organisations interested in frugal AI projects to adopt them in the best conditions. **Description:** This dataset makes available the best practices developed in the general repository for frugal AI. There are 31 of them and they are categorized according to different factors. : \ - The frugality gain they generate by being implemented (low, moderate, high) \ - The intensity of the effort required to implement them (low, moderate, high) \ - The stage of the life cycle of the AI on which they intervene (transverse, initialization, design and development, verification and validation, deployment, operation and monitoring, continuous validation, reassessment, decommissioning). \ - The element they concern: service, data, infrastructure. \ For each good practice, you will find its number within the general repository for frugal AI, its title and its theme. A description is presented as well as a detailed implementation. It also mentions the source of good practice. It can be a testimonial or a bibliography. You will find more details on the development of these good practices in the general reference framework: \ The CSV is encoded in UTF-8, with data separated by semicolons **Objective:** \ Easily understandable and flexible, they can be entered individually according to the priorities of each organization.
