Municipal vocabulary (2013)

The Municipal Glossary, completed in 2013 in cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister's Office, contains some 220 key concepts of the municipal sector, which have been defined. The vocabulary is available in Finnish, Swedish and English. The glossary is primarily aimed at central government personnel, but it is hoped that it will also help other people working in municipal affairs and those in need of terminology in the field. The purpose of the glossary is to harmonise the use of terms and thus clarify texts in the municipal sector in different languages.

The vocabulary of municipalities has been compiled using terminological methods by analysing the contents of the concepts, the relationships between the concepts and the concept systems formed on the basis of the relationships. The main content of the term is described in the definition. The glossary also contains concept diagrams illustrating the relationships between concepts, which help to understand the entities. The charts are in Finnish and Swedish only.

The dataset has been published as open data in Term Base eXchange (TBX) format (http://www.tbxinfo.net/tbx-about/). The diagrams in the glossary are in png format.

The glossary has not been updated since its publication (2013).
