Description

Find the calendar of days of changes of hours in France and add it to your digital agenda. The changeover to daylight saving time takes place on the last Sunday of March (advance by one hour, i.e. +1h). The changeover to winter time takes place on the last Sunday of October (one hour back, i.e. -1h). By adding the time change dates to your calendar, you can schedule reminders so you don't forget to change the time. If your calendar allows you to receive notifications on your phone or by e-mail; you can create reminders so you don't forget the time change! In 1944, summer time was abandoned in France. A decree of 14 August 1945 sets the standard time with a time difference from the time of its time zone (coordinated universal time: UTC+1). The time change was introduced in France following the oil shock of 1973-1974. On September 19, 1975, a decree introduced a summer time in metropolitan France to save energy by reducing the duration of artificial lighting in the evening. Daylight saving time is set to UTC+2. This measure, which was supposed to be provisional, is still being applied. Since 1998, time change dates have been harmonised within the European Union. In all member countries, the changeover to winter time takes place on the last Sunday in October and the changeover to summer time takes place on the last Sunday in March. In Overseas France, the time change does not apply (except for Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon). A legal time is defined by a decree of March 2017. Note: In March 2019, MEPs voted for a draft directive abolishing seasonal time change. The Directive was to be adopted by the European Council at the end of 2020 and then transposed by the Member States. However, due to the COVID-19 health crisis, this text on the end of the time change is no longer on the agenda and should not be discussed in the near future.
