Description

**BD Forest® version 2** was developed between 2007 and 2018 by photo-interpretation of colour infrared images of the ORTHO® BD. It assigns to each mapped beach of more than 5000 m2 a type of plant formation. Its main features are as follows: - A national nomenclature of 32 items based on a hierarchical decomposition of criteria, distinguishing, for example, pure stands from the main forest species in the French forest; - A type of plant formation assigned to each mapped range greater than or equal to 50 ares; - A layer geometrically compatible with the RGE® and therefore in perfect coherence with the vegetation layer of the TOPO® comic strip. **The areas described in the Forest® version 2.0 comic book are essentially natural and semi-natural areas**: • closed forests; • open forests; • poplar plantations; • heathland (maquis, scrubland, etc.); • herbaceous formations (alpine lawn, pastoral lawn, ...). **The objects present in the base are defined by an area greater than or equal to 5 000 m2 (i.e. 0.5 hectares or 50 ares), according to the following thresholds**: • exclusion of areas whose land use is exclusively agricultural; • width of at least 20 metres; • vegetation cover rate greater than or equal to 10%. These thresholds come from the current international definition of forest (source FAO 2004). **The discrimination of species present in the forest is then carried out according to the following rules**: • three classes of tree cover rates capable of reaching a height greater than 5 metres at maturity in situ: less than 10% (non-forest), between 10 and 40% (open forest), greater than or equal to 40% (closed forest); • a threshold of 75% of the canopy of trees with access to light to distinguish a stand in pure composition or in pure essence. **INFORMATION**: DATA GAME IS AVAILABLE TO FORMAT *.GPKG.
