Asylum applications, publication of 25 January 2024
Description
After the very strong decline linked to the COVID-19 health crisis in 2020, asylum applications made in one-stop shops for asylum seekers (GUDA) have recovered, and they now exceed pre-crisis levels in 2023. There are 145 522 first applications and 21 910 reviews, or a total of 167 432 applications, representing a moderate increase in asylum applications of +7.5% compared to 2022. Among the first requests made in GUDA, Dublin requests increased significantly by +25.4% in 2023 compared to the previous year.
To these requests made in GUDA, it is necessary to add 20173 other requests. Most stem from reclassifications of procedures initially identified as falling under the Dublin Regulation in other EU Member States in previous years, but which did not result in a transfer to the European country concerned (16184). In addition, refugee resettlements, under the programme conducted in conjunction with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees: 3,191 asylum applications in 2023, 88% more than in 2022.
