Efficient use of wood: Cascade versus incineration
Description
Wood is one of the most important renewable raw materials for the substitution of fossil raw materials. In this study, environmental and value-added effects of the material and energy use of wood are analyzed and recommendations for a sustainable use of the resource wood are developed. These include a sustainable supply of raw materials, a high level of material use, an acceleration of cascading use, the development of innovative products based on wood, a more efficient energy conversion, as well as the reduction of energy consumption in the provision of heat. There is also a need for optimization in existing conveyor systems. This study was commissioned by Mondi AG, Zellstoff Pöls AG and Laakirchen Papier AG.
