LIFE_IP Smart Waste project on waste prevention and management 2/2

Description

The South Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region is carrying out the LIFE IP Smart Waste project with the ambition of steering **waste prevention and management towards an innovative, sustainable and inclusive circular economy.** **Project objectives:** The LIFE IP Smart Waste project aims to develop the territorial dynamics to implement and strengthen the efficiency of the most recent departmental plans (2014-2016), initially, then the Regional Waste Prevention and Management Plan (PRPGD), adopted in January 2019. To achieve this objective, five main axes will be developed: * Support technical and social innovation to integrate all waste collection, treatment and recycling sectors into the circular economy; * Reinforce and adapt equipment to improve the recovery rate of waste (collection, sorting and treatment at local level); * Strengthen the skills of waste managers in local authorities and businesses; * Support the implementation at the relevant level of prevention, awareness-raising and information solutions on sound waste management; * Facilitate exchanges and sharing of good practices. **Expected results:** * Improvement of the waste recovery rate on the regional territory (increase from 29% to 65%) * Development of a sustainable regional dynamic in terms of waste prevention and better management * Strengthening the performance of public action on waste **Partners in the project:** In addition to the Region carrying out the project, the partners co-financed by LIFE, or associated beneficiaries, are initially the Territorial Collectivities in charge of waste in Bouches-du-Rhône and Var, then in a second time those in the entire Region via a call for projects (2020).
