Mapping of Local Climate Areas (LCZs) of 83 urban areas with more than 50,000 inhabitants - 2022

Cartography of Local Climate Zones (LCZ) carried out on 83 urban areas with more than 50,000 inhabitants in metropolitan France using SPOT satellite data from 2022.

The 83 urban areas were defined on the basis of the [Urban Atlas 2018] data (https://land.copernicus.eu/en/products/urban-atlas/urban-atlas-2018), and the production of this LCZ data was based on the [SPOT 2022 annual coverage] (https://dinamis.data-terra.org/spot-6-7-couverture-france-metropolitaine-2022) acquired under DINAMIS and the [BD TOPO] (https://geoservices.ign.fr/bdtopo) of IGN (v3.3 of December 2022).

This LCZ data can be used as a large-scale diagnosis of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon in your territory. It constitutes a climatic pre-diagnosis taking into account urban morphology and land cover: the aim is to locate the islands/neighborhoods with stakes on which to refine the analyses and prioritise the actions.

Online data visualisation is available on the Cerema portal Cartagene.
You can use this portal to locate the urban area to which your territory is attached and directly download the data.

The list of municipalities covered by each urban area is also provided in a CSV file downloadable below and available directly on explore.data.gouv.fr.

Delivery shall be in the form of a zip file for each urban area, comprising:
- vector mapping (.shp), accompanied by a style file for display in the QGIS software (.qml),
- mapping rasterized to 1.5 m (.tif) and superimposed on SPOT images, accompanied by a style file for display in the QGIS software (.qml),
- associated metadata (.xml),
- a PDF map showing the data on the urban area.
