This file contains information, in the form of lines, about the openness of the landscape in the province of Groningen.
Landscape with an unobstructed view to the horizon in which there are few compactions with farms, forests and plantations. These are areas from 100 (large-scale open) and from 1000 hectares (very large-scale open).
Openness of the landscape is very characteristic for large parts of the province of Groningen. Especially in Oldambt, Reitdiep, Veenkoloniën and along the Wadden coast, the large-scale, open agricultural areas are characteristic of the landscape. The province of Groningen wants the openness to be protected in the aforementioned areas. The main threats are new buildings and planting. Therefore, rules for maintaining large-scale openness are included in the 2016 Environment Regulation. This dataset is partly included in the Provincial Environment Vision 2016-2020 and the Provincial Environment Regulation 2016.
