Programme backdrop of the Lower Saxony Water Landscapes Action Programme - Areas of special importance for nature conservation with reference to floodplains

Description

The feature class consists of the following topics, which overlap in large parts: • Habitats areas (selection of floodplain-related areas) (as of 2017) • Bird protection areas (selection of floodplain-related areas) (as of 2018) • Areas of value for nature conservation nationwide (selection of floodplain-related areas) (as of 2017) • Nature protection areas (selection of floodplain-related areas) (as of August 2018) • Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve (as of July 2015) • Wet grassland (selection of floodplain-related areas) (as of 2012) • Lowland bogs (selection of floodplain-related areas) (as of 2017)• Large-scale nature conservation projects (selection of floodplain-related areas) (as of 2016). In addition to the national WFD priority waters with their floodplains, the areas that are of particular importance for the development of floodplains were also taken into account in the development of the programme. These areas will be included in the implementation of the action programme. In addition to the areas protected by nature conservation law, these include, for example, the nationally important (often strongly overlapping) area backdrops of the previous state nature conservation programmes in the Lower Saxony floodplains, which were integrated into the new programme backdrop (such as current distribution priorities of otters and white storks and networking opportunities with current other occurrences). Overall, the nature conservation criteria listed above are of particular importance for the development of water bodies and floodplains in Lower Saxony from a nature conservation point of view due to their reference to water bodies and floodplains.
