Polling stations and addresses of their electors

Description

The correspondence files between polling stations and the addresses of the voters who depend on them allow the construction of polling station areas. These facilitate the comparison of electoral data with the socio-demographic characteristics of voters attached to these areas. These files are drawn up from the Single Electoral Directory (REU), established by Law No. 2016-1048 of 1 August 2016 revising the terms of registration on the electoral roll, and which was implemented from 1 January 2019. Managed by INSEE, the aim of the REU is to manage the electoral process and to ensure the reliability of the electoral lists. It allows the continuous updating of the electoral lists at the initiative, either of the municipalities (and consulates) that register and de-register voters, or of INSEE on the basis of information transmitted by different administrations (armies, justice, interior) and civil status data. The REU contains, among other things, the address of registered voters and their polling stations, allowing them to be matched. Following the favourable opinion of the Commission for Access to Administrative Documents on the publication of addresses, and in consultation with the Ministry of the Interior, INSEE has developed a method for publishing this correspondence in open data (or open data), while not disclosing any information on the names and surnames of persons. The project benefited from the collaboration of DINUM (Etalab), the public body that coordinates the policy of openness and sharing of public data. ### Files The raw data used by INSEE correspond to an extraction of the addresses of the Unique Electoral Directory carried out in September 2022.
