Description
A water region is an administrative division for the management of water and watercourses, including groundwater bodies and coastal marine areas. The classification is based on subdivision criteria from the Water Framework Directive, which implements the Water Framework Directive. Norway is divided into 18 water regions, of which seven are international water regions and are shared with Sweden and Finland. The subdivision is given in Annex I to the Water Regulations. The water regions follow river basin limits, and therefore deviate from county and national borders. A water regional authority (county municipality) shall coordinate the work to carry out the tasks that follow from the Water Regulations. The work is carried out in close cooperation with the Water Region Committee. Measurement data on state and development within water regions and water areas are compiled to see state and development over time.
