Evolution of the number of teachers-researchers at the French university, since 1980

This dataset aims to offer a free-licensed compilation of the evolution of the number of professor-researchers holding the French university, since 1980.

It is based on the annual note “Teaching staff of public higher education”, published by the Directorate-General for Human Resources of the MESR.

The items covered are:
— University professors;
— Lecturers;
— Temporary teaching and research attachés (since 2001 only);
— LRU contract staff (since 2016 only).

Three groupings are proposed:
— Total
— By major disciplines (law-economics-management, literature-humanities, science-technical, health);
— By group of CNU sections (groups 1 to 11 + Theology + health sections) (detailed list: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conseil_national_des_universit%C3%A9s#Liste_des_sections_disciplinaires_dans_l'ordre_des_num%C3%A9ros_de_section).

Notes:
— Granularity “By group of CNU sections” appeared only in 1998 and is not available before that date.
— 1993 does not have data.
— The “medicine” and “odontologies” sections were merged until 1985.
