EEA template no. 2 for static mapping - scale 1:1mio and 1:10 mio, 2023 (vector)
Description
This metadata refer to the map templates number 2 developed by EEA for static mapping. This resource offer two templates, one in scale 1:1 mio (EEAtemplate_2_01M) and one in scale 1:10 mio (EEAtemplate_2_10M). The template in scale 1:1 mio is suitable for detailed mapping such as zooming in to country level still holding a fair level of details avoiding countries and borders becomes too angular. The template in scale 1:10 mio is suiteable for mapping at European level. The extent of the templates cover Europe and inserts of Canary Islands, Azores, Madeira, Malta, Liechtenstein, French Guyana, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Martin, Reunion, and Mayotte. The templates has been prepared with the legend and a map-scale placed inside the map. The templates are prepared to be used in ArcMAP and in ArcGIS Pro. The EEA map templates are based on the 'EEA map data'. EEA map data has been tailored to meet the requirements for static maps to be conveyed in various EEA products such as reports, assessments, indicators, briefings etc. The EEA map data is based on open and free data from these sources:
• Eurostat/GISCO (https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/gisco)
• EuroGeographics (https://www.mapsforeurope.org/datasets/euro-global-map)
Administrative boundaries delivered by Eurostat/GISCO is furthermore based on data provided by FAO and TurkStat. All organisations must be acknowledged in the maps made based on these data.
Kosovo and palestine should be visualised in EEA maps with hashed country borders as EEA supports the UNSC and UNGA resolutions. EEA refer to Kosovo* as: *"This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSC 1244 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo Declaration of Independence".

Important: The EEA map templates has been designed to meet good practise on cartography. The EEA map data is not suitable for computation or any kind of data analysis.
