Open and closed landscapes evolution (1778-1969)

Description

Displays the evolution of open and closed landscapes between 1771 - 1873 - 1969. The classification is based on the occurrence of wood edges, rows of trees, forests and orchards. Closed landscapes occur in places with high concentrations on wood sides (=bocage), forest or orchards. Concentrations of more than 7.5 km of wood edges and/or rows of trees per km2 as well as environments with forests and orchards are considered a closed landscape. An open landscape offers views of a wide area. There are few or no visual impediments. A backdrop landscape represents a semi-open landscape with more see-through and filtering light. It consists of concentrations of rows of trees. At the bottom they are relatively open, so that it is possible to see between the tribes. At the top of the crowns they are closed earlier. The evolution starts at Ferraris and then continues in time, until 1969. A landscape that was open at the time of Ferraris is represented in the yellow-brown color palette. Light yellow has always remained open. Colour variants towards brown-grey indicate an evolution towards e.g. forest. Red-pink shades represent bocages, i.e. where many wood edges occur. Dark red are the bocages at the time of Ferraris, where wood edges appeared in large concentrations until 1969. Pinkish colors reflect other evolutions: The most common is the evolution of bocage at the time of Ferraris to an open landscape in 1969. Blue color variants visualize the evolution of wings with many rows of trees to an open landscape or other. In places where there were forests at the time of Ferraris, the colour green lights up. The colour purple represents orchards at the time of Ferraris.
