Geological cross-sections
Description
In 2003, at the request of the then Ministry of the Flemish Community, the Department of Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) - the current ALBON, Department of Land and Soil Protection, Subsurface, Natural Resources of the Department of LNE - was commissioned to draw up geological profiles throughout the Tertiary. Seven geological cross-sections were drawn through the Tertiary, spread over the whole of Flanders. These profiles cut through the most important geological phenomena of the Tertiary, but also include the Quaternary and the deeper subsurface. Based on the selection of a thousand representative drillings from DOV, 5 north-south profiles and 2 east-west profiles were drawn. The drillings used are never more than 5km from the profile line. Although the mapping dates back to 2003 and the data at the time were also used in DOV and in the literature, the results of this assignment are still representative.
