The issuance of visas to foreigners, publication of 20 June 2022

The issue of visas to foreigners includes short-stay Schengen visas, valid for the metropolis and sometimes for the overseas departments and, with few exceptions, for the territory of all other Schengen States, as well as long-stay visas valid for the metropolis and the overseas departments.

The number of visas applied for and issued in 2021 is slightly higher (up 12.9 % and + 2.9 % respectively) compared to 2020, reflecting the still present effects of the pandemic Covid-19 crisis, which severely constrains migration flows with the exception of long-stay visas which returned to pre-crisis levels in 2021.

Short-stay Schengen visas are visas valid for the European territory of France and, with few exceptions, for the territory of all other Schengen States.

The long-stay visa serving as a residence permit (VLS-TS) does not apply for a residence permit in the prefecture.
