Level of protection of regional flood defences
Description
This map layer shows the regional flood defences in the province of Zuid-Holland.
Regional weirs are a collection of non-primary weirs, such as borehole quays, canal and regional river weirs and dry compartmentalisation weirs, which are designated in the provincial ordinances and for which a safety standard is laid down. The designation as a regional flood defence is determined by the importance and function of the barrier, often on a regional scale.
The level of protection (standard) of a regional flood defence is also determined on the basis of the economic damage that can occur if the flood defence fails.
It has been shown in the past that it is difficult to keep the maps up to date. The shelves of the water boards provide a much more up-to-date and accurate picture of the exact location of the flood defences. For this reason, the environmental regulation refers to the depositor determined by the water board for the exact location of the barrier.
