Languedoc-Roussillon Soil Quality Index

Description

Classification of Languedoc-Roussillon soils according to their long-term agronomic development potential. The classified individuals are the Sol Typological Units (UTS) of the BDSol LR. Spatialisation considers the Cartographic Units of this BDSol (pedolandscapes) grouping UTS and characterised by percentages of occupancy of each soil quality index. The Soil Quality Index calculated from the Soil BD is essentially based on the useful soil reserve. It is also based on criteria of salinity, beat, hydromorphy, PH, and pierrosity or abundance of coarse elements. OPenIG makes available in shapefile the Soil Quality Index for the former Languedoc-Roussillon region and the associated documentation. The limits of this layer: * It does not take into account existing irrigation networks (it is based solely on soil information) * It has a “cereal production” logic. Thus, terroirs favourable to crops with little water needs, such as wine-growing terroirs, will appear with an index of average soil quality... Preconisations of uses: * Use the layer on a suitable scale (1/250 000th), do not superimpose it with cadastral or communal data. * Take “soil quality” information with caution (see limits above) ***OPenIG publishes on behalf of INRAE and both bodies discharge any responsibility for any use that could be made of the data made available. Institutions’ liability is limited to making the Files available and complying with the technical specifications mentioned in the preamble to the Convention.
