COVID-19 monitoring data in Social and Medical-Social Institutions (ESMS)

Following the correction of a seizure error, the number of deaths in week 03 in ESMS has been revised downwards.
The necessary corrections have been made and explain the decrease in the value of the indicator “total deaths since the start of the epidemic” compared to the previously published cumulation.
### COVID-19 surveillance in ESMS
A system for reporting and monitoring COVID-19 cases and deaths in **social and medical institutions** (ESMS) offering accommodation was put in place by Santé publique France on 28 March 2020 to reactively monitor COVID-19 cases and deaths among residents and ESMS staff.
The evolution of practices and feedback from the actors of the monitoring system since the start of the outbreak has led to a new version of the online application COVID-19 EHPAD/ESMS available since 19 March 2021, which aimed in particular at:
— Improve the ergonomics of the application with the proposal of several thematic tabs;
— Reduce the risk of typing errors through more entry controls;
— Allow access to the history of declarations, in particular to make changes, by creating accounts for users.
A confirmed case of COVID-19 is defined by a symptomatic or asymptomatic person with biological confirmation of SARS-CoV2 infection (positive RT-PCR result or antigenic test or serology).
One death from COVID-19 was either the death of a confirmed case or a death attributed to COVID-19 by the doctor in the medical certificate of death.
