TMJA traffic on departmental roads - Department of Calvados
Description
Point road counts showing the number of motorised vehicles moving in both directions on the roads, as well as the speeds used.
These counts are called TMJA (annual average daily total).
For each count, the following shall be indicated: the value of the count (numeric value expressing a flow rate), the location (kilometric reference point - RP), the date (day and year), the period of the count, the type of measurement carried out: number of vehicles per day. Also indicated is the V85: speed below which 85 % of light vehicles (LVs) circulate, free (not constrained by the circulation of other vehicles).
**Collection context**
Since 2002, the Department of Calvados has operated a Geographic Information System (GIS) with a road component and regularly produces data that is spatialized in the Road Geographic Information System (SIGR).
As part of its management missions, maintenance of the road network and its police powers to regulate traffic on departmental roads outside urban areas, the Department of Calvados schedules annual counting campaigns on its departmental road network with the aim of covering the entire department in five years.
Counts allow the Department to define the traffic class of a road - an indicator to calculate the sizing of a pavement when developing the maintenance program - the type of road development, as well as its road safety policy.
**Collection method**
The data collected by road meters are imported into the Calvados Road Geographic Information System (SIGR) which generates a vector layer of geolocated points from the RP (odometer reference point) where the meter is located.
