NWB roads - Road sections history 1993 (RWS)

Description

This dataset contains all road sections from the National Road File (NWB) on the reference date 01-01-1993. The NWB Road File is a digital geographical file of all roads in the Netherlands. All roads managed by road authorities such as the national government, provinces, municipalities and water boards are included, but only insofar as they are provided with a street name or number. So also loose foot and bicycle paths and unpaved roads, if provided with a street name, are included in the NWB Roads. If a road has separate lanes, which is especially the case with national roads, these are processed as separate road sections in the file. The NWB Roads file currently consists of more than 158,000 hectolitres and more than 1 million digitized road sections with a total length of almost 158,000 kilometres (measurement 2020). The NWB Roads file is updated monthly. As of 1 July 2020, the Residential Names and Municipal Names in the NWB BAG are Compliant. This means that the spelling of the names is written according to the official spelling. The Basic Registration of Addresses and Buildings (BAG) was introduced in 2009 and public authorities have a user obligation to use this registration in the performance of their task. So is the NWB. Until now, the NWB used the NEN spelling for residences and municipality names. The names were made unique and places of residence were written in capital letters. In the BAG it is possible that a residence name with the same spelling occurs in different municipalities. This structure has been taken over in the NWB and is therefore the same as the BAG. To get used to this adjustment, a new column has been added to the NWB (column WPSNAME) for the BAG spelling. The residence name according to the old spelling, remains the WPSNAME column and has been moved to the last column. Eventually, this last column (WPSNAMES) will disappear, the expiry date will be specified. We therefore advise you to start using the WPSNAME column from 1-7-2020. More information and news about the NWB can be found at https://nationaalwegenbestand.nl/ Representatives of municipalities, provinces, water boards and Rijkswaterstaat have started to design and organize the cooperation around the NWB. In the context of this further development of the NWB, we would like to get in touch with you, the NWB user. Therefore, we ask you to send an email with your contact details to the following address: nwb@rws.nl
