Speaking time for women and men in programs reported to the APF for its report on the representation of women on television and radio
Description
The speaking time in this dataset corresponds to the estimates in the APF Annual Reports on the Representation of Women on Television and Radio (FY2019 and 2020). The reports are available on the APF website.
Women’s and men’s speaking times are automatically obtained using the free software [inaSpeechSegmenter](https://github.com/ina-foss/inaSpeechSegmenter), developed at the INA. This software is based on machine learning algorithms (subfamily of artificial intelligence) trained on a large number of examples of music, noise, women’s and men’s voices to detect speech areas contained in audio-visual documents.
The 26 reported TV channels are 6TER, BFMTV, C8, CANAL PLUS, CNEWS, Chérie 25, FRANCE 2, FRANCE 3, FRANCE 4, FRANCE 5, France 24, L’Equipe, LCI, M6, NRJ 12, RMC Discovery, RMC Story, TF1, TFX, TMC, W9, franceinfo, CSTAR, France Ô, GULLI and Paris Première. The volumes reported in 2020 for CStar, Gulli and Paris Première were not considered large enough to be analysed. France Ô no longer exists, and France 24 was not analysed in 2019.
The 14 radio stations reported were Europe 1, Fip, France Culture, France Info, France Inter, France Musique, FunRadio, Mouv, NOSTALGIE, NRJ, RFI, RMC, RTL, Virgin Radio. FIP and RFI were not analysed in 2019. Virgin Radio was not analysed in 2020.
The operation of the automatic analysis software used on audiovisual documents, as well as the estimation of its reliability, are described in the following article:
