Road condition classes of the unlicensed national road network from 2019 onwards

Description

From 2019, the method of testing and assessing the condition of the roads of the unlicensed national road network, also known as the “iQRndemarch”, has evolved to take into account the latest technological and methodological developments. The new version of the iQRn based on innovative technologies and methodologies represents a drastic change in road condition assessment methods and makes it difficult to compare the new data obtained with those obtained under the old evaluation method. The new iQRn approach makes it possible, specifically concerning the consistency of the roadway, from a lidar survey of the pavement surface, software tools for automatic degradation detection and classification algorithms, to calculate new indicators and to define new classes of pavement condition: — BE = pavement in good condition, not requiring work or requiring ad hoc maintenance work — MS = average pavement, requiring generalised surface maintenance work — Me = pavement in poor condition, requiring structural maintenance work. — Nd = roadway in which the condition has not been determined. This new classification was applied to sections of roads with homogeneous geometric characteristics and a maximum length of 5 km. For each section, the percentage of area corresponding to each state class shall also be specified. Each section of the route is defined by: — the name of the road; — its length (in metres); — its beginning (D) and end (F) coordinates expressed in Lambert93 (X, Y, z=0) coordinates or a road tracking system consisting of 4 attributes: — PR = Road Marking Point — dePPR = department where the PR is located — concessionPr = indicates whether the PR is on a conceded section (C) or not (N) — ABS = absciss or distance (in metres) separating the point of the PR to which it relates — rating = specifies whether the section is located on a separate right (D) or left (G) or single pavement road (I) — year = year of measurement of road condition — Theoretical surface, calculated from the length of the section, its number of track and a width of 3,5 metres per track.
