Municipalities of the Mountain Law to the Official Geographical Code (COG 2020->2022)

Description

The 1985 Mountain Law was supplemented in December 2016 by the Law on Modernisation, Development and Protection of Mountain Territories, known as the Mountain II Law. Thus, mountain areas are characterised by significant handicaps resulting in more difficult living conditions and restricting the exercise of certain economic activities. They include, in metropolitan France, municipalities or parts of municipalities characterised by a considerable limitation of land use possibilities and a significant increase in the costs of works due to: (1) the existence, due to altitude, of very difficult climatic conditions resulting in a significantly shorter period of vegetation; (2) the presence, at a lower altitude, in most of the territory of steep slopes such that mechanisation is not possible or requires the use of particular equipment which is very expensive; (3) the combination of these two factors where the extent of the disability, resulting from each of them taken separately, is less accentuated; in this case, the disability resulting from this combination must be equivalent to that resulting from the situations referred to in 1° and 2° above. Each mountain area is delimited by inter-ministerial decree and attached by decree to one of the massifs. In the event of the creation of a new municipality, classification in mountain areas shall be maintained for the parts of the new municipality corresponding to the territory of the former municipalities previously classified as mountain areas. The municipalities subject to the urban planning provisions of the mountain law are listed by ten decrees made between February 1974 and September 1985, which are available below.
