The TRF-GIS database corresponds to a geographical information system for France in the Third Republic. It makes available annual nomenclatures and shapefiles corresponding to the administrative districts of metropolitan France from 1870 to 1940. It describes the general administrative districts (departments, districts, cantons) as well as military, judicial, prison, electoral, academic, ecclesiastical and labour inspectorates. It also provides annual nomenclatures establishing a correspondence between each contemporary municipality and the districts to which it belonged.
