In 2015, the provincial structures met the demand for hospitalisation with a total budget of 1 727 acute beds (95% of which are public), equal to 3.3 per 1 000 inhabitants higher than the national standard of 3.0 acute beds per 1 000 inhabitants (Legislative Decree No 95 of 6 July 2012 ‘Spending review’ – provincial indicator calculated with public and private beds contracted with the health authority). 177 beds were reserved for the daytime activity. In addition, 68 cribs were available in the care institutions, all of which were located in public shelters (Table 5.2.1). In 2015, 83,128 acute hospitalizations were carried out, of which 65,685 (79.0%) under the ordinary regime and 17,443 (21.0%) under the daytime regime. It should be noted that cases discharged from departments other than functional and long-term recovery and rehabilitation units are considered acute hospitalizations, in line with the definition adopted at ministerial level, excluding healthy infants, i.e. infants present in hospital belonging to the DRG 391 "Normal neonate". The trend of admissions shows a constant decrease in the number of admissions: In fact, it has gone from 93,120 admissions in 2010 to 83,128 admissions in 2015, recording a decrease in the last six years of 12.0%. (Table 5.2.6). 96.9% of acute hospitalizations occurred in public hospitals. Compared to 1996, the proportion of ordinary hospitalisations produced by public hospitals has increased progressively to over 97% in recent years. The hospitalization rate of residents in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano in 2015 was 150.9 acute hospitalizations per 1,000 inhabitants (118.5 relative to the ordinary regime and 32.4 to the day - for admissions made in the Province are considered in the calculation the admissions made in public facilities and in affiliated departments of private nursing homes, for extra-provincial admissions are included admissions abroad). Overall, the rate of hospitalization of residents is below the value of 160 admissions per 1,000 inhabitants indicated as a target by the national planning (D.L. "Spending review" 6 July 2012, n. 95), following a progressive decline since 2007 (Table 5.2.9). Calculating the standardised hospitalisation rate by sex and age, i.e. taking into account the age structure of the population, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano records a rate of approximately 158 hospitalisations per 1,000 inhabitants, with the Health District of Brunico in particular being the area with the highest use of hospitalisation (180,9) (Table 5.2.10).
