Description
The Federal Environment Agency operates seven air quality monitoring centres where background pollution, long-distance shipments of air pollutants and trends in air quality are recorded. The report shows the results of the measurements in 2021 and the development of pollution levels over the last 30 years. The limit values for particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide, as well as for heavy metals and benzo(a)pyrene were complied with at all measuring points in 2021. The lowest loads to date have been recorded at most measuring points. Ozone pollution in 2021 was below the average of recent decades. However, the target values for ozone for the protection of human health and vegetation were exceeded at two and five measuring points respectively.
