NRS – Lower Rhine Plaices
Description
The area of the Lower Rhine Bay together with the north following Lower Rhine lowlands forms a geological and tectonic structural unit extending to the north between the right Rhine and the left Rhine shale mountains. This lowering area is interspersed by a series of north-west-south-east striking disturbances where the subsurface is broken down into numerous plaices (horsts and trenches). The Lower Rhine Bay is thus divided into the following plaices: Rur plaice; Erft plaice; Cologne plaice; Ville plaice; Venloer plaice; Krefeld plaice.
