The structuring of the forest-wood sector
Description
The forest-wood sector represents EUR 60 billion and 440000 jobs in France. At the centre of multiple environmental, economic and social challenges, it has been experiencing a structural crisis for at least two decades. The lack of linkage between supply and demand for timber results in a large and growing trade deficit of around EUR 7 billion. Although progress has been made, structuring efforts, both within the sector and within the public authorities, remain insufficient. At the request of the Finance, General Economy and Budgetary Control Committee of the National Assembly, the Court makes eight recommendations around two main areas of action: conservation of the forest resource and support for wood processing industries; the promotion of a coherent channel policy, on the other hand.
