The cooling towers (TARs) represented here are those classified under heading 2921 of the nomenclature of installations classified for the protection of the environment. This includes any installation providing a cooling function by evaporative cooling and implementing continuously or intermittently the process of water dispersion in an air stream.These cooling systems, where the water of the primary circuit is cooled either by evaporation in direct contact with the air stream or through a heat exchanger whose water of the secondary circuit is cooled by evaporation of water in direct contact with air, are sources of production of aerosols by spraying water droplets into an air stream.This is particularly the case for emergency installations, installations used in seasonal processes, and so-called mixed or hybrid air coolers combining evaporative operation with other modes of operation (dry and/or adiabatic)
