Soil map of Lower Saxony 1: 50 000 — Dike Lines in the Coastal Holocene (WMS Service)
Description
The representation of the dike lines in the coastal holocene was developed in the course of the processing of the soil map on a scale of 1:50,000 by Lower Saxony. They are of fundamental importance for the landscape and soil development in the march and sometimes also form land boundaries. Data were based on various historical representations or maps (see below). In the present expansion stage, only the location of the dikes is shown. As far as possible, the situation has been adapted to today’s topography. With the map bases before 1800, the particular difficulty was to find the dike lines and adapt it to today’s topography. The age of the dykes or dike chambers or the functions of the dikes (summer, winter dykes), external or rear dikes (Achterndiek) are not attributed in this stage of development.
