Preferential cycle route (indicative map chapter M 4.1)
Description
Bicycle preferential routes are network elements in the cantonal bicycle route network that have a high bicycle traffic potential. On these routes, cycling is preferred. On the bike preferential route, cycling is preferred. There should be as few obstacles as possible, such as crossings with long waiting times, unnecessary stops, bottlenecks, or, for example, curbs that are too high. Cyclists are preferred on this route, it offers more safety. In cycling, it is not speed that is important, but directness, safety and undisturbed flow. The aim is to have a width of two to four meters, depending on whether in one-way or two-way traffic. Preferential cycle routes are set up in the agglomeration areas, the core cities and the urban centres and can significantly relieve the burden on public and motorised private transport.
