976 Area with wind potential
Description
At the beginning of 2006, an agreement between the General Council of Mayotte, the University
of Orleans and the Encis Wind design firm was signed to assess the wind potential of
Mayotte. Thus, two masts of wind measurements were installed in April and May 2007 on the island
Grand Land of Mayotte, one in Chirongui, the other in Longoni, two open areas of the island,
chosen for their accessibility. The measurement campaign allowed us to assess the speed
wind at the height of a wind turbine. A wind atlas of Mayotte was carried out in order to identify
the most favourable areas for wind turbine installation, with a view to studying feasibility
technique of generating electricity and pumping water from wind energy.
