Air pollution database near schools and nurseries in Île-de-France
Description
### Description
This database contains the concentrations modelled in micrograms per cubic meter of annual daily average for three air pollutants (NO2, PM10 and PM2.5) in the vicinity of nurseries and schools in Île-de-France for the years 2012 to 2017.
### Methodology
These data were compiled by the crossing of the databases of the early childhood care institutions ([EAJE](http://data.caf.fr/dataset/adresse-des-etablissements-d-accueil-du-jeune-enfant-percevant/resource/5839604b-d91f-42f5-a6ea-e8267b9e13e6)) and [the address database of the first and second degree educational institutions](https://www.data.gouv.fr/fr/datasets/adresse-et-geolocalisation-des-etablissements-denseignement-du-premier-et-second-degres-1/) with air quality files modelled by Airparif (one file per year and per pollutant).
Each measure corresponds to the concentration level found at the geolocated point corresponding to the postal address.
> **These data do not therefore provide information on air quality in the courtyards of establishments or inside buildings**.
### Description of files
Each file has three categories of variables:
1. the descriptive variables of the institution;
2. variables relating to exposure levels;
3. a “geometry” variable corresponding to the geolocated address of each establishment.
The descriptive variables of institutions are strings.
* **ID**: the unique identifier of the crèche or school;
* **name**: the usual name of the establishment in the reference files;
* **CP**: the postal code of the establishment;
* **city**: the city according to the nomenclature of INSEE (with two exceptions: Crèvecoeur-en-Brie and Vincy-Manoeuvre, not referenced [in the last available database)(https://www.insee.fr/fr/information/2114819#titre-bloc-7)];
* **type**: the category of establishment (crèche, primary or secondary).
The variables corresponding to the exposure levels shall follow the following nomenclature: “*pollutant_AAAA*” means the 4-digit calendar year. Their numerical values are expressed in micrograms per cubic meter as an annual daily average.
> *Example: the variable “PM25_2014” contains the average concentrations per day of PM2.5 for 2014.*
The variable “geometry” corresponds to the coordinates of the geolocated addresses of establishments in EPSG:4326 (WGS-84).
These data are made available in CSV format separated by commas and encoded in UTF-8.
### Approach of the producer
This database was established by [Datactivist](http://datactivist.coop/) on behalf of [the Breath association](https://www.respire-asso.org/) to alert the levels of exposures of fragile populations to air pollution.
It serves as an à la carte basis “[Air for our children!](http://www.de-l-air-pour-nos-enfants.fr/)” uploaded by Respire on March 27, 2019.
This campaign aims in particular to promote two immediate measures to protect children in the municipalities of the Greater Paris metropolis:
1. the creation of pedestrian zones around schools;
2. the establishment of low-emission zones (LEZs).
